Lab Center

The Lab Center of the College of Science, Mathematics and Technology at Wenzhou-Kean University is a vital component of the university's teaching and research endeavors. Aiming to achieve international standards in experimental education, it strives to create an excellent internationalized lab teaching environment and build a high-quality operational system for lab instruction. This provides students with an open and proactive lab setting for personalized and autonomous learning. Currently, the Lab Center houses teaching and research laboratories in disciplines such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, and physics. These facilities are distributed across the teaching buildings, the comprehensive lab building, and the science and engineering building, with a total area of approximately 8,200 square meters. The center is equipped with over 800 teaching and research instruments, valued at more than 55 million RMB. These include precision instruments such as confocal laser scanning microscopes, mass spectrometers, flow cytometers, HPLC, GC, and high-performance computer clusters. These facilities comprehensively support faculty and students in conducting teaching and research activities, fostering the rapid advancement of the university's educational quality and research capabilities.

In 2014, the Lab Center established its first biology laboratory. In 2015, it was approved as a "Demonstration Lab Center Construction Site for Wenzhou Higher Education Institutions." By 2018, it had completed its construction and was recognized as the Wenzhou Municipal Demonstration Center for Biology Lab Teaching. In 2019, the center was approved as a provincial key construction project for lab teaching demonstration centers during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. In 2020, it was designated as a Provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Bioinformatics. In 2021, it was approved as the Wenzhou Municipal Key Laboratory of Applied Biomedical Informatics. These superior hardware conditions provide a solid foundation for lab teaching and effectively support scientific research.

The Lab Center boasts a dedicated, dynamic, and innovative management team and technical staff. It currently employs nine full-time technical personnel, all of whom hold master's degrees or higher. With scientific lab management expertise and extensive experience, they possess rich scientific knowledge and experimental skills. The lab management framework and concepts, enhanced through international exchanges, have contributed significantly to the rapid development of the Lab Center. The team has undertaken or participated in numerous research projects, securing cumulative research funding totaling millions of RMB from national, provincial, municipal, and university-level sources. Center members have published multiple academic papers in internationally renowned journals such as *Trends in Plant Science*, *Molecular Plant*, *Conservation Letters*, *Frontiers in Microbiology*, *Horticulture Research*, and *Computational and Structural Biotechnology Journal*.
