BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Percy David Papa Akuetteh is a Lecturer of Biology in the College of Science, Mathematics and Technology (CSMT) at Wenzhou-Kean University. Originally from Ghana, he holds an MBBS, MD, and PhD in General Surgery from Wenzhou Medical University, with specialized training and research experience in hepatobiliary surgery and cancer biology. At Wenzhou-Kean University, Dr. Akuetteh teaches undergraduate biology courses, including introductory biology, cell biology, and physiology-related courses. He is actively involved in student mentoring, research supervision, and curriculum development, with a strong interest in helping students connect fundamental biological

concepts with medicine, scientific research, and real-world applications. His research interests span cancer biology, oncology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, gene and protein expression, and surgical biomaterials. He has authored and co-authored more than 18 SCI-indexed scientific publications, with research covering areas including pancreatic and other cancers, tumor metabolism, molecular biomarkers, and potential therapeutic targets. His interdisciplinary background allows him to bridge clinical medicine, molecular biology, and biomedical research in both his teaching and research. Beyond the classroom and laboratory, Dr. Akuetteh is actively involved in international and cross-cultural engagement. Having lived and worked in China for more than a decade, he has participated extensively in cultural exchange and community activities connecting China, Ghana, and the wider international community. He has served in cultural ambassador roles in Wenzhou and Zhejiang Province and is also an accomplished singer and performer known as Percy 阿达. Dr. Akuetteh is also an entrepreneur and community leader, with experience in cultural communication, event organization, and international engagement. His multidisciplinary career reflects his belief that education extends beyond the classroom and that science, medicine, culture, and communication can work together to create meaningful connections between people and communities. His current academic interests focus on advancing biomedical and cancer research while developing engaging, research-oriented learning experiences that encourage students to think critically, communicate scientifically, and apply biological knowledge to real-world problems.

RESEARCH INTEREST

 

Dr. Percy’s research focus is mainly on Oncology, Bioinformatics and Surgical materials and equipment’s. He seeks to research more into the use of protein and Gene expression and its relations to human cancer. The broader aim of his research is to further apply this knowledge Clinically and Pharmaceutical industry.
