Biography
Dr. Shixing Tang received his bachelor degree of medicine in 1986 and master degree of public health in 1989 in Southern Medical University (former First Military Medical University) in Guangzhou, China, as well as PhD of public health in 1993 in the Academy of Military Medical Sciences in Beijing, China. Dr. Tang was trianed as a post-doctoral fellow from 1993 to 1995 in the School of Medicine within Perkin University, then in the University of Glasgow from 1996 to 1997. He used to work as a visiting fellow and then a Staff Scientist from 1997 to 2003 in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Besthesda, MD, USA. He also worked as a Staff Scientist in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the USA from 2003 to 2011. During 2011 and 2014, he was recruited as Chief Medical Officer and Chief Technology Officer in a biological company in Guangzhou, China. Since 2014, he joined the School of Public Health, Southern Medical Uuniversity and was appointed as a full professor. Now Dr. Tang is a principle investigator of Whenzhou Institute within University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Tang focuses his study in the development of novel in vitro diagnosis and cell-based immunotherapy, in particular for infectious diseases and cancers. He has publised more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Journal of Virology, etc.
Dr. Tang was the receipient of FDA Excellence in Analytical Science in 2011; FDA or Center Director’s Award in 2009; Scientific Achievement of FDA in 2007; anf The Fellows Award for Research Excellence of NIH in 2001.
