Biography

Choo Siew Woh FRSB graduated from the University of Cambridge in the UK with a Ph.D. in genetics. He participated in the world’s first international human ENCODE project of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Choo is currently a professor at Wenzhou-Kean University, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (UK), the founder and principal investigator of International Pangolin Research Consortium, a member of the Experts Committee of  China  Biodiversity  Conservation  and  Green  Development  Foundation (CBCGDF), Council member and Director of China Pangolin Research Centre, Council member of Zhejiang Bioinformatics Society, Wenzhou Ouyue Haizhi Plan Talent, Suzhou SEID Excellent Scientific and Educational Talent, Wenzhou Overseas Elite Programme Talent. He is committed to the bioinformatics, genomics, pangolin conservation, and drug development research, and has mastered a number of high-end core technologies. He has received grants worth up to RMB 17 million and published more than 70 academic papers in international authoritative journals, including 1 《Nature》, 3 《Genome research》and 1《Conservation Letters》with a total of 7,115 citations. He has presided over a number of national scientific research projects, including the International Young Scientist Fund program of Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Malaysia’s High Impact Research Fund, National Concept-to-Commercialization Gap Fund (CCGF), and National Cradle Seed Fund, as well as has a number of granted patents.

朱绍和 FRSB,英国剑桥大学遗传学博士,曾参与美国国立卫生研究院的全球首个人类ENCODE项目。现任温州肯恩大学研究教授、英国皇家生物学会会士、国际穿山甲研究理事会创办人兼首席科学家、中国绿发会专家委员会专家、中国穿山甲研究中心理事兼主任、浙江省生物学会理事、瓯越海智计划入选者、江苏省苏州市科教创新区高端人才集聚工程科教杰出人才获得者、温州市全球精英引进计划人才。致力于生物信息学、基因组学穿山甲保育和药物开发研究,并掌握了多项高端核心技术。所获基金资助高达1700万人民币,已在国际权威期刊上发表了学术论文70余篇包括1篇 《自然》和3篇《基因组研究》,总引用次数7,115次。主持多项国家级的科研项目包括中国自然科学基金外青项目、马来西亚高影响力研究资助、国家Concept-to-Commercialization Gap Fund (CCGF)基金及国家摇篮种子基金等,以及拥有多项授权专利。

Research Interests

Choo has been engaged in the research in bioinformatics and omics. Main research fields:

  1. Bioinformatics and genomics;
  2. Modernization of traditional Chinese medicine: discover and develop innovative drugs to cure human diseases (e.g., infectious diseases, cancer, inflammation, aging, depression, and immunity-related diseases), as well as the functional and innovative products (e.g., antimicrobial laundry detergents and cosmetics);
  3. Pangolin genomics and conservation
